Workpaper discipline for cloud-ledger teams
Cloud ERPs post faster than reviewers think. That speed is useful — until reconciling items hide inside automation rules nobody documented for the close.
Name the auto-posts
Maintain a living list of system-generated journals: FX revaluation, revenue recognition engines, intercompany eliminations. Each item needs an owner, a frequency, and a residual-risk note. If the rule changed mid-quarter, the workpaper must say when.
Screenshots are not evidence alone
A screen capture of a balance proves little without the filter criteria, user, and timestamp. Prefer exportable reports with parameters preserved, then tick to the general ledger with clear cross-references.
Review notes that teach
Write review comments that a junior can act on without a hallway conversation. “Tie to subledger” is weaker than “tie AR aging export dated 3 Jan, filter company code KR01, exclude disputed invoices tagged D.”
